Rotary Club of Stourbridge The Rotary Club of Stourbridge meets at the Hagley Golf and Country Club most Wednesday lunch times. The meeting lasts around an hour and include a 2 course lunch, speaker and of course the day to day business of a busy active club. You should attend at least 60% of the meetings to remain a Rotary Club member. We have around 70 members who are like-minded local business and professional people who enjoy shared experiences and each other's company in an informal and friendly atmosphere. Members represent a cross section of the local business and professional community, Solicitors, Estate Agents, Bankers, Doctors, Dentists, Company Directors, Local Government Officers, Accountants, Builders, Plumbers, Educationalists, Clergy, Veterinary Surgeons, Engineers, Shop Keepers and many more. The Club gets involved in charity and community work, from offering practical help for invalid and elderly groups to working with young people in developmental programmes and individuals who just need support. There is also a very strong social side to the Club, outings are arranged and these can include traditional Black Country and skittles nights, walking weekends, visits to places of interest, theatre trips and there is even a small golfing section. The Club is twinned with the Rotary Club of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, USA.
Why Become a Rotarian? Rotary International is the world's leading service organisation. Rotarians are united in providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards of work and helping to build goodwill for world peace. Rotary International was founded in 1905 and now has in the year 2000 over 1.2 million members in more than 29,000 clubs in 159 countries. There are 1,800 clubs in Great Britain and Ireland with over 61,000 members. This means that each individual Rotary Club is active at international, national and local level. But Rotary Clubs are best known for work in their home community through support for the needy of all ages including those who are disabled or infirm. "Service above Self" is Rotary's motto, your experience will be valued by your local Rotary club and, when you become an active Rotarian, you will appreciate what service above self means.
